Seattle Fandom Charities
a nonprofit organization founded by geeks, drawing on fandom, benefiting all *

We all have good ideas, sometimes even great ideas. Then life gets complicated and busy and (we hope) a little bit fun, and those ideas get lost in the shuffle of just going about our lives. Then there are those ideas that nag at you, that crop up in conversation at the pub, at the coffeehouse, at the con registration table, while leafing through the latest comic book, and that keep you awake at night.

Seattle Fandom Charities was one of those ideas.

But it is not entirely my idea.

It has been a collaborative idea that developed over time through many conversations with many friends in many circumstances. And its initial inspiration comes from the Can't Stop the Serenity events on behalf of Equality Now founded, organized, and attended by Browncoats (for those as yet uninitiated to the 'Verse, that refers to fans of Firefly).

But I, and my fellow directors (and so many others), began to see the possibilities in expanding that charitable impetus to include more than just Browncoats, more than just one beneficiary organization.

And that was the seed of the notion that the passion of geeks, the dedication of sci-fi/fantasy fans, the force of our common interests can be focused into something that gives back to the world.

And thus Seattle Fandom Charities was born.

So strap in, grab your sword, unfurl your cloak, log in, roll the dice, engage the warp drive, batten the hatches, query network protocols, utter spells, telepathically communicate, and in all fantastic ways prepare for a grand adventure of doing good works.

Check back often and browse our growing site to learn more about becoming involved through SFC. We have many events percolating and many ideas still to explore. This is just the start of things. But as with any adventure, please don't forget your towel.

Cheers,
